What Nevada requires — before you file
1
6-week residency. You or your spouse must have lived in Nevada for at least 6 weeks before filing for divorce — one of the shortest requirements in the country.
2
No mandatory waiting period. Nevada has no waiting period. An uncontested divorce can be finalized very quickly — sometimes within days of filing if paperwork is complete.
3
Joint Preliminary Injunction. When you file, an automatic temporary restraining order prevents either party from hiding assets, taking children out of state, or canceling insurance.
4
Financial disclosure required. Both parties must exchange financial disclosures covering income, expenses, assets, and debts in all cases involving property or support.
5
Parenting class if children involved. Both parents must complete a court-approved parenting class before the final decree is entered when minor children are involved.
Nevada uses 'physical custody' and 'legal custody.' Visitation is the term for non-primary-parent parenting time. Nevada courts favor joint physical custody arrangements when appropriate for the child.
