What Minnesota requires — before you file
1
180-day residency. You or your spouse must have lived in Minnesota for at least 180 days before filing for dissolution.
2
No mandatory waiting period. Minnesota does not impose a waiting period for uncontested dissolution.
3
Financial disclosure required. Both parties must exchange income, expense, asset, and debt information.
Minnesota says 'dissolution of marriage' not divorce, and uses 'parenting time' not visitation. Minnesota courts strongly favor parenting plans that maximize each parent's time with the child.
