What Maine requires — before you file

6-month residency. You or your spouse must have lived in Maine for at least 6 months before filing for divorce.

60-day waiting period. Maine requires at least 60 days from service before a divorce can be finalized.

Financial disclosure required. Both parties must provide financial statements.
Maine uses 'parental rights and responsibilities' instead of custody, and 'parent-child contact' instead of visitation.
