MC-051 - California Judicial Council

Memorandum of Costs

Request reimbursement of court costs from the other party after winning a motion or judgment.

What this form does

MC-051 is filed after a favorable ruling to request that the losing party pay your court costs — filing fees, service fees, and other allowable expenses. Not all costs are recoverable, and attorney fees require a separate motion, but court costs are often awarded to the prevailing party.

Who needs to file it

The prevailing party after a favorable ruling.

When to file it

File within 15 days of the date of judgment or ruling.

What happens after you file

The other party can contest the costs. If not contested, the court clerk enters the costs as part of the judgment.

Filing fee: No separate filing fee.
