Request for Court Order
Ask the court to make or change an order about custody, visitation, support, or another family matter.
What this form does
The FL-300 is the starting point for most family law motions in California. You file it when you need a judge to decide something — custody arrangements, visitation schedules, child support amounts, spousal support, or enforcement of an existing order. It tells the court who is involved, what you're asking for, and sets a hearing date. Without it, nothing moves.
Who needs to file it
Anyone who needs a judge to make or change a family law order in California — whether you filed the original case or you're responding to one.
When to file it
File when you need the court to act on a specific issue and you can't resolve it with the other party directly.
What happens after you file
After filing, the clerk stamps your papers and gives you a hearing date. You must serve the other party. Both sides appear at the hearing and the judge issues an order.
