DV-120 - California Judicial Council

Response to Request for Domestic Violence Restraining Order

Filed by the restrained person to tell the court their side of the story before the full restraining order hearing.

What this form does

DV-120 gives the restrained person a chance to respond to the allegations in the DV-100 before the full hearing. You address the claims made against you, provide your account, and tell the court what orders you are asking for. Filing it is optional — but not filing means the judge only hears the protected person's version.

Who needs to file it

The restrained person — the person the DVRO was filed against.

When to file it

File before the full hearing date shown on the DV-109.

What happens after you file

Your response is served on the protected person. Both sides present at the hearing.

Filing fee: Free.
