Summons (Family Law)
The legal notice that officially tells the other party a family law case has been filed against them.
What this form does
The FL-110 Summons is issued by the court clerk when you file a dissolution or legal separation petition. It is served on the other party along with the FL-100. The summons contains automatic restraining orders that take effect immediately — neither party can move children out of state, cancel insurance, or dispose of property without court permission or written agreement.
Who needs to file it
Issued automatically when you file FL-100. Served on the respondent.
When to file it
Served with the FL-100 petition. The automatic restraining orders in the summons begin the moment it is served.
What happens after you file
The respondent has 30 days to file a response (FL-120). The automatic restraining orders remain in effect during the case.
