Frequently Asked Questions
Common questions about how SharpeSystem works, pricing, subscriptions, and what to do next.
About SharpeSystem
No. SharpeSystem is a legal-adjacent self-help platform. We are not attorneys, we do not provide legal advice, and nothing on this platform creates an attorney-client relationship. We help you understand forms and organize information — but you should consult a licensed attorney in your jurisdiction for advice specific to your situation.
SharpeSystem provides step-by-step guided interviews for family law forms. The available forms vary by state. We currently support California, Texas, Arizona, and Florida. You can browse all available forms from your state's home page.
SharpeSystem currently supports California, Texas, Arizona, and Florida. If your state is not listed, check back soon — we are expanding regularly. You can sign up for updates at the bottom of any state page.
Pricing & Subscriptions
Yes. Filling out and working through any form on SharpeSystem is completely free. You only need to pay if you want to print or export your completed form.
SharpeSystem uses a subscription model. A single print costs $25. If you need ongoing access and want guided support, we offer a $49/month subscription (billed every 36 days) that includes unlimited exports, document storage, and access to our guidance content.
Subscriptions are billed every 36 days instead of monthly. This is intentional — it sits between calendar months, which avoids overlapping charges and gives you a more predictable billing schedule. You can cancel anytime.
Yes. You can cancel your subscription at any time through your account settings. Cancellation takes effect at the end of your current billing period. No prorated refunds are issued unless required by law.
Your documents are stored on our secure servers for as long as your account is active. If you cancel, your documents remain accessible for 30 days so you can export them. After 30 days, we may delete them to protect privacy. Export your documents before canceling if you want to keep them.
Forms & Exports
Yes. Once you complete a form, you can download a PDF-formatted version ready to print and file with the court. The PDF is formatted to match court requirements for the jurisdiction you selected.
You can edit the information in SharpeSystem anytime. When you download, you get a PDF snapshot of your current answers. If you want to make changes later, log back in, update your form, and download a new version.
SharpeSystem helps you complete official court forms using plain-English interviews. The underlying forms are published by state courts. We do not modify the forms — we just help you fill them out correctly.
You can always log back in and update your answers. Download a fresh PDF with the corrected information. If you've already filed with the court, contact the court clerk or a local attorney about the process for amending your filing.
SafeChannel
SafeChannel is a built-in messaging tool that lets you communicate safely with the other party in your case. Every message is reviewed and timestamped before delivery, creating a verifiable record suitable for court. Messages are stored for the duration of your subscription and up to 3 years after.
SafeChannel creates a timestamped record of your communication. However, we cannot guarantee that any SafeChannel record will be admissible in court or sufficient for any specific legal purpose. You are solely responsible for consulting your own attorney about using SafeChannel records in court proceedings.
SafeChannel messages are stored for the duration of your active subscription and for up to 3 years thereafter, or longer if required by law or court order. If you cancel your subscription, your SafeChannel history remains accessible but will not receive new messages.
After You Complete a Form
After downloading, we recommend:
- Review the form carefully and verify all information is correct
- Consult with a local attorney if possible — they can review before you file
- File the form with the appropriate court in your jurisdiction
- Serve the other party as required by your court's rules
- Keep copies for your records
You file your form with the family law court in your county. After you complete a form, SharpeSystem provides information about your county court, filing fees, and the service-of-process requirements specific to your location.
In most cases, yes. Family law requires that the other party receive notice of your filing (called "service"). You can serve them yourself, use a professional process server, or file a proof that you tried to serve them. Specific rules vary by jurisdiction — your county court website or a local attorney can clarify the requirements.
Filing fees are charges set by your court for submitting documents. They vary by court and by form. After you complete a form on SharpeSystem, we show you the estimated filing fee for your county. If you cannot afford the fee, most courts allow you to file a fee waiver request (forms and processes vary by state).
A fee waiver is a court order that allows you to file documents without paying the filing fee if you cannot afford it. The process and forms for requesting a fee waiver vary by state and court. SharpeSystem provides information about fee waivers specific to your location after you complete a form.
