Colorado  ·  District Court — Family Division

Colorado family court, without the confusion.

Colorado District Court handles dissolution of marriage, parental responsibilities, child support, and civil protection orders. Colorado uses its own terminology throughout the process.

1 91-day residency. You or your spouse must have been domiciled in Colorado for at least 91 days before filing.
2 91-day waiting period. Colorado requires at least 91 days after service before a decree can enter — one of the longer waiting periods in the country.
3 Financial disclosure required. Both parties must exchange sworn financial statements within 42 days of service.
4 Parenting class required if children. Both parents must complete a parenting class when minor children are involved.
Colorado says 'dissolution of marriage' not divorce, 'parental responsibilities' not custody, and 'parenting time' not visitation. We use Colorado's language throughout.
